Recently, a supernova was discovered by the Al-Khatim Observatory in the United Arab Emirates. SN 2023rve is the explosion of a massive star, possibly leaving a black hole in its wake. This supernova can be observed by comparing the most recent image of NGC 1097 with an older one.

The spiral galaxy NGC 1097, where supernova SN 2023rve is located, is approximately 45 million light-years away from Earth, situated in the Furnace constellation, and is visible even with a small telescope.
