As is tradition, NASA has released a new image of the Universe; this time, the chosen highlight for the ‘Astronomical Photo of the Day’ is the dwarf planet, Pluto.

In the image, you can see the frozen canyons of Pluto’s northern region, thanks to a picture captured by the New Horizons spacecraft in 2015 during its first reconnaissance flyby of the dwarf planet, about six billion kilometers from the Sun.
Currently, the region is named Lowell Regio, in honor of Percival Lowell, the founder of the Lowell Observatory located in the United States. Lowell was an amateur astronomer who led research that led to the discovery of Pluto.
