The Hubble highlighted the galaxy, named NGC 6684, for its ‘ghostly’ appearance! NGC 6684 lacks the dark dust lanes that traverse other galaxies, resulting in its pale, luminous, and spectral look.
Captured with the Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys, NGC 6684 is a lenticular galaxy, which means it is ‘lens-shaped’. These galaxies are characterized by a large disk but lack prominent spiral arms, placing them somewhere between elliptical and spiral galaxies.
