The company is focused on creating advanced brain implants that aim to enable people to control devices with their thoughts and treat neurological conditions. In announcing the human tests, Neuralink has released a form to accept applications from patients with paralysis.

In a statement, the company claims to have received approval to commence testing and invites individuals with tetraplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to apply.

According to Neuralink, the initial goal is to give people the ability to control a computer cursor or keyboard using only their thoughts, in addition to evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the implant.
