The new smart vehicles from BMW will come equipped with Qwen, the AI developed by Chinese company Alibaba, according to an announcement by the German automaker on Wednesday (03/26).

BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) will be based on Yan AI, a smart cockpit solution developed by Banma, a partner of Alibaba, and will feature Qwen technology.

“AI is a driving force for boosting productivity across all sectors. We look forward to working closely with BMW to pioneer AI applications in the mobility sector that foster innovation and truly enhance the user experience,” said Eddie Wu, CEO of the Alibaba Group.

The company announced that the feature will debut in BMW Neue Klasse models produced in the country starting in 2026.

“BMW will work more closely with Chinese tech partners in electric mobility and smart technologies to write our renewed win-win story,” said Sean Green, President and CEO of the BMW Group Region China.
