A woman who has been in the ICU for six months was taken on a stretcher to a music concert with the help of a hospital team.
Tatiane Barros, from Brasília, Brazil, suffers from Acute Intermittent Porphyria, a rare metabolic disorder that affects the production of blood enzymes and can, in some cases, lead to muscle paralysis.
Hospitalized for six months, Barros got a big surprise last Sunday when she learned she would be going to a music concert. Thanks to the ICU team, who organized everything to safely take her, the patient was able to enjoy a pagode performance, her favorite musical genre.
Alongside doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, friends, and family, Barros watched the two-hour performance surrounded by joy and fun.
To G1, Antônio Aurélio Fagundes, coordinator of the general ICU at DF Star hospital, explained that the team brought all the necessary equipment and took every precaution so that Barros could fully enjoy the moment safely.
“She loves pagode, she’s always talked about it. When she turned 45 in April, we brought a band to play in the hospital garden, with family present. Now, we managed to fulfill her dream of going to an outdoor concert, following all safety protocols,” said the doctor.
The doctor revealed that Barros has lost movement in almost all her muscles but remains positive, and that moments of distraction are essential for patients’ recovery; “The idea is to add life to those fighting to keep living.”
In a video posted by the hospital on its Instagram page, many internet users praised the health professionals for the initiative.
“Congratulations to everyone involved!!! I work in healthcare and scenes like this move me; only those of us in the daily routine know how important actions like this are,” wrote one.
“How beautiful!! Congratulations to all involved. We are made of memories, and you surely created a beautiful memory in this patient’s life,” said another.
