The aircraft, identified by tail number AZ-02, remained airborne for just over an hour, during which an initial evaluation of its systems and performance was carried out.
A Milestone in Polish Air Force Modernization
The F-35A debut occurred just three months after the official presentation of the first Polish model, held at the end of August. Known as “Husarz” in tribute to the legendary “Winged Hussars” of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Polish F-35As are distinguished by their low-contrast roundel design, replacing the traditional red and white.
Replacing Obsolete Aircraft
In 2020, Poland signed a $4.6 billion contract to purchase 32 F-35A aircraft, which will replace the outdated MiG-29 and Su-22 models currently in service. The contract aims to modernize the fleet and significantly improve the country’s defense capabilities.

Delivery and Training Plans
The formal delivery of the first fighter is scheduled for later in 2024, with its official arrival in Poland expected in 2026, following the completion of Polish pilots’ training in the United States. The first F-35As will be based at the National Guard Air Base in Ebbing, Arkansas, where the pilots will undergo initial training.
The delivery of all 32 units is expected to be completed by 2030.
