The profile of entrepreneur John McAfee, who passed away in 2021, has been reactivated on X (formerly Twitter) and is promoting a new cryptocurrency in his honor.
A post made on the profile of the late British entrepreneur last Wednesday (22) talks about a cryptocurrency that could be classified as a “memecoin“, called AIntivirus.
The cryptocurrency’s name is a play on the words AI (artificial intelligence) and antivirus, as the entrepreneur was the creator of the McAfee antivirus software. “I’m back with AIntivirus. An AI version of myself. You didn’t think I would miss this cycle, did you?”, the post says.
The post also included the official profile of the coin on X. Internet users wondered if the post was the result of a hack, where someone had broken into the late entrepreneur’s account to carry out scams.
However, John’s widow, Janice Elizabeth McAfee, denied the rumors, saying the cryptocurrency was created to “honor” his legacy. According to Mashable, the memecoin AIntivirus reached a market capitalization of $37 million just hours after the post.
It’s worth remembering that John McAfee had been indicted for fraud involving cryptocurrencies and money laundering. He was arrested in Barcelona, Spain, in 2020, but was found dead in his cell in June 2021, while awaiting extradition to the U.S.
