The Curiosity rover was seen strolling across the surface of Mars in a rare image shared by NASA.

The Curiosity rover, which began its exploration of Mars in 2012, was first captured from space on February 28, 2025, according to the American space agency.

The photograph was taken by the high-resolution HiRISE camera, which is installed on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) satellite, focused on monitoring Mars.

In the image, the Curiosity rover appears as a small dark spot, and behind it, a 320-meter-long trail shows its movement across the Martian surface.

It moves at a very slow pace, only 0.16 km/h, not accounting for external factors such as weather, soil type, terrain inclines, and its ability to analyze and interpret obstacles.

Its journey is planned by engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA. According to Doug Ellison, the lead planner, the photo was taken at the exact moment when the rover had completed a 20-meter walk that day.

Currently, it is traveling through a steep region. Unless unexpected issues arise, the rover is expected to reach its next scientific study location in a few weeks.
