Russia has recently deployed its new air defense system, the S-500 Prometheus, which, according to them, is capable of intercepting Western hypersonic missiles.

The information was shared by Russian journalist and military technology expert Mikhail Khodarenok, who explained that the system, developed by Almaz-Antey, is capable of intercepting hypersonic missiles from Western nations.

The S-500 offers a maximum operational range of 600 kilometers and an altitude capability of 200 kilometers, surpassing the capabilities of the S-300 and S-400 systems.

In order to intercept high-speed air threats, the system uses the 77N6-N and 77N6-N1 missiles, which are specifically designed for the kinetic interception of hypersonic missiles.

Also known as 55R6M Triumfator-M, the Russian system was first activated in May 2021, and in early January of this year, Russia announced it would deploy twelve more systems to protect the Crimean Bridge against potential Ukrainian attacks.
