The system, also known as Silent Hunter, is being used by a mobile air defense team of the Russian special operations group Kochevnik.
A video released by Russian military sources shows both the laser system being tested on a steel plate and footage of Ukrainian drones being taken down.
Observers from the Ukrainian Military Service’s Vodohrai Telegram channel identified the drones in the footage as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the Shchedryk type, a Skywalker X8, and a decoy UAV known as the Distractor.

The LASS is a 30 kW fiber-optic laser mounted on the chassis of an SUV. It is equipped with radar and an optical station for detection, tracking, and targeting.
The radar reportedly has a detection range of up to 5 kilometers, while the optical system can track targets within a 3-kilometer radius.
The system, believed to have been developed by the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, is said to be capable of destroying drones at distances of up to 1.5 kilometers and blinding optical systems up to 3 kilometers away.
