While these cases are almost always scams, Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly actually using WhatsApp to offer jobs at Meta.
The information comes from a report by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, which revealed that the entrepreneur has been reaching out to people targeted by Meta through the messaging app to offer them positions at the big tech company.
According to the report, some of the people contacted by Zuckerberg didn’t even respond, thinking the message was a scam.
In addition to job offers with million-dollar salaries, Zuckerberg is also said to be starting conversations about acquiring equity in startups and investing in high-risk ventures.
The report states that the Meta CEO’s efforts are focused on recruiting top talent to join the company’s AI team. In particular, he seems determined to accelerate his “superintelligence” project.
Recently, Meta recruited Alexandr Wang, founder of Scale AI, a company that trains data for AI systems. Wang is expected to join the superintelligence lab alongside other prominent figures in the AI field.
Others contacted by Zuckerberg include John Schulman, co-founder of OpenAI, and Bill Peebles, co-creator of the video generator Sora. Both rejected Meta’s offer.
Ilya Sutskever, also a co-founder of OpenAI, is reportedly being recruited, and Meta still seems interested in investing in his startup, Safe Superintelligence.
Meanwhile, Daniel Gross, CEO of SSI, and Nat Friedman, former CEO of GitHub and a former executive at Microsoft, are in negotiations with Meta.
