Hideaki Nishino, the new CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, confirmed that the PS6 will focus more on hardware improvements rather than streaming services.

During a segment meeting, he was asked by Video Games Chronicle about the future of PlayStation hardware and whether it could be replaced by cloud gaming.

“Cloud streaming is progressing well technically, as we have demonstrated with our offerings, but end-to-end network stability is not under our control,” Nishino told VGC.

“Cloud gaming is increasingly providing an additional option for players to access content, but we believe most players still want to experience games through local execution without relying on network conditions. And I believe the PS5 and PS5 Pro have validated this thesis.”

Without revealing many details, Nishino stated that the hardware of the next console is something “at the top of PlayStation’s priority list.”

“While we can’t share more details at this time, the future of the platform is a priority. We are committed to exploring new and improved ways for players to interact with our content and services.”
