A video captured the moment South Carolina troopers desperately ran to remove a wild sow from a busy highway on Friday, June 27.
Troopers Matthew Bullard and Clifton Nelson were called to respond to the emergency, with Corporal Nelson stating it “was one of the funniest calls” he has ever handled.
The two officers positioned themselves on opposite sides of the highway to try to corner the hog, which did everything possible to dodge and outmaneuver the troopers.
Bullard, who grew up on a farm with pigs, jumped and grabbed her by the hind legs.

“That was the easiest and safest way to grab the pig, and it’s something I’m used to doing,” said the officer. “It’s better than letting the animal get hit by a car,” he added.
The sow caused no accidents and also emerged unharmed.
Wild hogs are common in South Carolina, especially along the coast, after Spanish explorers released several in the region in the 16th century, according to the state’s Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR).
Recently, two of our @schighwaypatrol had an interesting call for service — saving a pig from the middle of one of the state’s busiest interstates!
Thankfully, after a short foot chase, the pig was rescued without injury and the troopers were able to get traffic moving again.… pic.twitter.com/YMD3Q8gCFx
