TikTok will notify users in the United States about missing children.

TikTok has announced that it will now send notifications to users in the United States about missing children.

TikTok will send AMBER Alerts to users of the platform in the United States about missing children.

The company, in partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, announced that real-time notifications will be sent to users’ feeds in the area where the missing child is being searched for, after the police issue the initial alert.

In the example shared by TikTok, the AMBER Alert displays a photo and identifying information of the missing child, along with an option to call 911. Notifications will only be sent to those in relevant geographic areas, similar to existing phone and TV alerts.

The app began testing the feature in Texas last year, and AMBER Alerts on the platform have already been viewed more than 20 million times.

According to the company, the notifications are expected to reach over 170 million Americans on the app and could help raise awareness about missing children.
