A TikToker decided to count how many times she hears her children say the word “mom,” and the impressive number surprised the internet.

Women often joke that if they earned a coin every time they heard the word “mom,” they would surely be rich. An Australian woman decided to count, and the impressive number surprised internet users.

In a TikTok video, Jacki, a housewife and mother of two children, Jessie, 4, and Andy, 2, used a handheld click counter to find out how many times she hears the kids calling her.

In the clip, which already has over 800,000 views, she tells her followers: “Let’s see how many times I hear the word ‘mom’ in one day.” Well, she barely finishes the sentence and one of the kids calls for Jacki, who immediately starts counting.

Throughout the day, the TikToker gave updates on the count; by 8:50 AM, she had already heard 88 times, and by lunchtime, the number had risen to 127.

To Newsweek, Jacki explained why she decided to do this “experiment”: “I did it out of curiosity because it seemed like the word ‘mom’ was used very frequently every day.”

“I’m not complaining about how often I’m called, but I wanted to highlight a fact about my job, taking care of my beautiful kids, which can be challenging sometimes because it’s very repetitive, but that’s okay!”

“Imagine going to work and your boss calling your name so many times, interrupting you so frequently, you would get a little frustrated!” she said.

And she was right; from 7 AM to 8 PM, when the little ones went to bed, Jacki counted 234 calls for attention.

“We wonder why moms are tired of hearing their names,” Jacki says in her post; “I did some quick math, and if this is the daily average, in one year I will be hearing this 85,410 times.”

Her post caught the attention of internet users, especially other moms, who commented on the results of her experiment; “Actually, less than I thought. It feels like a million times!” one wrote.

“I have a pair of twins and was wondering how many times I hear the word ‘mom’ in a day,” another commented.
