From time to time, social media sparks special moments, and this time, a casual post from a TikToker helped a band turn their song into a viral hit.
It all began when Rachel Ruff Cuyler came across a clip from the indie band Poolhouse on her feed, and although she liked the sound, she thought a few tweaks could turn the song into a major hit and decided to post about it.
“Yesterday, my algorithm detected a song, and all I wanted to do was fix it,” says Cuyler in the TikTok video that kicked off the whole story.
According to Cuyler, the song “Could Be Love” had “all the elements” of a megahit, but there was one problem: to her, the pieces were “in the wrong order.”
To make it a hit, Cuyler suggested three things. First, that the chorus should be included in the first verse. Second, that the current first chorus should be moved to the second verse, and when the song reached the chorus, it should be intensified.
According to the TikToker, the sound needed to be “fuller,” and to make it clear, she recorded her own version.
Cuyler’s video went viral, gaining millions of views, and it eventually reached the band. The members of Poolhouse were surprised by the tips given by the TikToker and incorporated her suggestions to create a new version of the song, which they called “the Rachel version.”
And it didn’t stop there. Cuyler was invited to meet the Poolhouse crew and shoot a new music video for “Could Be Love”. The result of this collaboration went viral and won over internet users.
“An amazing story. This is why the internet was created, for connection and inspiration. More of this, please,” commented one user.
“What a time to be alive! The internet was made for moments like this,” wrote another.
