A transgender basketball player went viral after sharing her story, claiming she is at a “great biological disadvantage,” despite her success on the court.

Harriette Mackenzie, 21, leads Vancouver Island University in points, rebounds, and blocks this season. It’s worth mentioning that she previously broke five women’s basketball records at Mount Royal University.

Despite this, Mackenzie claimed she is at a significant “competitive disadvantage” when playing against biological women on the court. “I’m playing at a great biological disadvantage,” she explained, adding that she began her gender transition in kindergarten.

“I never went through male puberty; I only went through female puberty. I believe that all trans people should be included in sports,” the player said.

The 1.88-meter tall forward has made headlines in recent months amid allegations that she was the victim of physical and verbal abuse by an opponent and her coach.

However, internet users strongly criticized Mackenzie’s statement, saying “keep women’s sports, women’s sports,” “complete joke,” and “make it make sense.”
