After announcing his own smartphone and a carrier bearing his name, Donald Trump is facing heavy criticism online, with many users suggesting the venture is nothing more than a scam.

The Trump Mobile launch was made by the Trump Organization, run by the former president’s eldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric. According to them, the branded phone and carrier were meant for “true Americans” to enjoy.
The brothers shared that the golden T1 Phone will be available in August for $499, with a phone plan option costing $47.45 per month.
“Trump Mobile is going to change the game. We’re continuing the movement to put America first, and we’ll offer the highest levels of quality and service. Our company is based here in the United States because we know that’s what our customers want and deserve,” said Trump Jr., according to The Independent.
However, Reddit users claimed the initiative is nothing but a scam. “I tried to order the Trump Phone. The page crashed and charged the wrong amount to my credit card,” one user shared.
Not only are people facing issues trying to purchase it, but others have also raised concerns over security, stating that something like this would never be allowed in other countries.
“How is this allowed? Isn’t it a massive conflict of interest? If the president of my country launched a phone with his own brand, the entire government would shut it down immediately. Who takes a president seriously when they pull something like this? Oh right, no one,” mocked another user.
“I’m from a third-world country and something like this would never happen here, which proves the US is a joke of a country nowadays,” stated a third internet user.
