Twitch has announced that it will cease its operations in South Korea starting from February 2024. The streaming platform revealed that the decision was made due to high operational costs and substantially higher network fees in the country.

The information was disclosed by Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch, who specified that it was an isolated decision but did not identify a sustainable way to keep the business in the country. The end of Twitch’s operations in the country will take place on February 27, 2024.
“The cost of operating Twitch in Korea is expensive, and we’ve spent significant effort working to reduce these costs so we could find a way for Twitch’s business to remain in Korea.[…] While we have reduced costs from these efforts, our network fees in Korea are still 10 times more expensive than in most other countries.[…] I want to reiterate that this was a very difficult decision, and we are very disappointed to have to make it.”
