The US has completed the test of a new defense system using hypersonic missiles, according to the website New Atlas.
The test involved the Navy, the Missile Defense Agency, Lockheed Martine, and other partners from the military technology industry.
During the test, the C-17 Globemaster III transport jet carried a Medium-Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM) equipped with a Hypersonic Target Vehicle-1 (HTV-1) inside a launch container.
After being parachuted from the plane, the hypersonic missile was released and boosted by a rocket stage to a high enough altitude for it to reach speeds well above Mach 5 while gliding downward.

“Our Aegis Combat System successfully defended against a simulated hypersonic threat,” said Chandra Marshall, Vice President of Multi-Domain Combat Solutions at Lockheed Martin.
“The hypersonic defense advantage of Aegis Baseline 9 against an MRBM target provides an incredible capability that allows our warfighters to see the unseen earlier, ensuring our sailors stay ahead of threats quickly.”
