Surveillance footage from inside the Pho 21 restaurant captured the moment when the thief entered the restaurant around 7:40 AM, just 20 minutes before the restaurant opened.

He then went to the bathroom, and when he came out, he tried to steal one of the restaurant’s three robots. He wrapped his arms around it and tried to pull it outside, nearly stumbling under the pressure of the robot.

One of the employees watching attempted to stop him as he tried to carry the robot toward the door. He even managed to place the robot in his car for a few seconds, but quickly, other employees arrived and fought to get the robot back, according to the video.

They eventually made the man return the robot and called the police. The robot waiter is valued at around $18,000, but it would have no value to the alleged thief, according to Tony Ngo, the owner of Pho 21, in an interview with ABC 7 News.

The robot requires specialized programming, which would make it useless outside of the restaurant. Fortunately, the small robot that could have been stolen is already back at work, serving food alongside the colleagues who saved it.
