Russian state-owned corporation Rostec, through its subsidiary Rosoboronexport, has completed the first phase of construction of a 7.62 mm ammunition factory for Kalashnikov rifles in Venezuela.

The new facility expands military cooperation between the two countries, which has intensified in recent years.
According to Rosoboronexport, the factory will be capable of producing up to 70 million cartridges per year, significantly boosting the South American country’s defence capabilities.
Each production line has been designed to manufacture tens of thousands of cartridges per work shift, and initial testing has confirmed the quality of the products and their compliance with declared technical specifications.
In addition to ammunition production, the industrial complex includes a range of support structures, such as a waste disposal centre, intermediate storage for ammunition components, a firing range for testing tracer rounds, a fire-fighting reservoir, and other auxiliary facilities.

Increasingly isolated from the international community following presidential elections widely denounced as fraudulent, Venezuela has sought to strengthen its strategic ties with Russia, particularly in the military domain.
