The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has awarded BAE Systems a contract to develop their Striker II Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) for the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon fleet.

Developed by BAE Systems in Rochester, Kent, the Striker II is one of the world’s most advanced fighter helmets, using the latest technologies to integrate its fully digital night vision system and a daylight-readable color display.

Under the new contract, BAE Systems’ engineers will mature the helmet’s capabilities before starting initial production to support flight tests and integration at BAE Systems’ combat air site in Warton, Lancashire.

The contract, valued at £40 million, will create and sustain over 200 highly-skilled jobs at BAE Systems’ facilities in Kent and Lancashire, working directly on the Striker II program.
