A woman shared on her social media the surprising request she received from a group of elderly women when she visited a nursing home, which moved the internet.
In a video posted on TikTok, Brittany Spivey explains that after her mother passed away in 2022, and since she no longer had parents or grandparents, she decided to make volunteer visits to the local nursing home.

She shares that on her first visit to the nursing home, she brought a bouquet of flowers and asked which residents hadn’t received a visit in the longest time. Spivey was surprised when the receptionist told her that most of the residents didn’t receive visitors very often.
That day, the TikTok user was assigned to two sisters who weren’t expecting anyone to come visit them. After talking for a few hours, Spivey says that she fell in love with them and, as she writes in her post: “I felt like I was sitting with my grandmother and my mom again.”
Spivey began visiting the nursing home regularly, and during one of her visits to the sisters, she received a surprising request. When she asked if they needed anything, they replied: “Girl stuff.”
And they weren’t talking about perfumes or hygiene products, but butterfly hair clips, lip gloss, hair bows, small accessories, and even a jewelry-making kit, toys, and little things that young girls love.
The next day, the TikTok user and her daughter brought some little trinkets to the girls at the nursing home so they could have fun and “feel like the girls they are.” According to Spivey, since then, all of her visits have been a big joy.
“It was so beautiful. I miss my mom… I miss my grandmother… it was so beautiful because I can still have that relationship,” she reveals, and then encourages people to spend some of their free time visiting a nursing home and looking for residents who don’t receive regular visits.
Spivey’s post moved the internet, and some of her followers promised to follow her example; “That’s why I volunteered at a nursing home this Thursday. Thank you,” said one.
“I’m going to volunteer. I’ll be unemployed and it seems like a nice way for us to connect. We’re human and we want connections,” wrote another.
