A photo showing a side of planet Earth that is rarely seen is leaving internet users completely shocked.
It’s no surprise that Earth is nicknamed the “water planet” — after all, about 71% of its surface is covered by water.
Everyone knows that, but it’s one of those facts that stays tucked away in the back of your mind. That’s why when a user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a photo showing just how “blue” our planet really is, people were left speechless.

The image in question was taken from Google Earth and shows a part of the Southern Hemisphere that is rarely seen. “The side of planet Earth we’re not used to seeing,” wrote the user in the caption.
The Pacific Ocean — the Earth’s largest and deepest ocean — takes up almost the entire image, stretching from edge to edge.
Only a small green dot representing New Zealand is visible in the lower left corner, along with a portion of Antarctica appearing as a bright white surface at the bottom of the image.
Since the photo was taken by satellite, some white clouds can also be seen in the area. But aside from New Zealand and Antarctica, there’s no other visible landmass in the shot.
