Hailey Ostrom, the golf influencer with more than 900k followers on Instagram, posted a video to vent after being chased by a man.
The 30-year-old influencer began by saying she was playing golf at a club she frequents when she was informed that a man had appeared at the location trying to contact her.
She then explained that the man had been contacted by a fake page created in her name and scammed. According to her, the man had sent $50,000 to the fake Ostrom profile on social media.
“He left his name, I didn’t recognize the name, and I basically attributed it to, probably a follower, just let it go. […] until… that man showed up at my house. It was a very scary situation for me, and I had never experienced anything like that before.”
“It turns out he had been messaging a fake Hailey Ostrom page thinking it was me and sending them $50,000. He obviously got mad when that person stopped messaging him, so he found a way to get to me and came to my house,” she continued.
“I was really scared and even texted my parents during this interaction, telling them to send the police to my house immediately. He didn’t make any threats and eventually left on his own. But, as you can imagine, I don’t know his intentions.”
“There are hundreds of fake pages of mine, and I report them daily, but unfortunately, many of these platforms don’t do a good job of removing them,” the influencer lamented.
In the caption, she took the opportunity to warn her fans and make a plea to Meta, owner of Instagram. “As a reminder: I will never message you asking you to follow me on another page or platform. I will never ask for money. All my accounts are linked on my website. Please, Meta, remove these fake pages.”
