In a viral post, a man shared the idea he had to make sure he returned a wallet he found to its rightful owner.

The good Samaritan took to social media to share the code he created to locate the true owner of a lost wallet, preventing its contents from falling into the wrong hands.

“I left a note in a way that only the real owner could contact me,” said the viral post on Reddit, alongside a photo of the note and the “riddle” he wrote.

In the post’s comments, the person who posted the photo explains that they found the wallet last year. It was a Saturday, and police stations were closed, so they left a notice stating that they would hand the item over to the police on Monday.

The person also explains that the wallet contained documents but no contact information. They tried to locate the owner through social media but were unsuccessful, so they left the note near where they found the wallet.

According to the note shown in the screenshot, the real owner had to provide their date of birth in the format “DD/MM/YYYY” and then add it to the given number. The correct result would reveal the contact phone number of the person who found the wallet.

According to the person who made the post, the method worked, and a few hours later, they received a call from the wallet’s rightful owner.

Reddit users loved the security passcode and praised the idea: “It’s very unlikely that someone would have the same birthday and be in the exact same area where a black wallet was lost. This should be much more common,” wrote one user.

“This is… truly genius,” said another.
