Opera singer Lisette Oropesa was surprised when a fan stood up in the audience and started singing with her.
Opera singer Lisette Oropesa encountered an unexpected moment when a fan in the audience stood up and joined her in song. The renowned soprano had returned to the stage for an encore after her recital when this unique event happened.
Oropesa was performing the female part of a duet from Verdi’s *La Traviata* without a partner. When the tenor section started and no one joined in, Liu Jianwei, an opera student and admirer of the soprano, stood up and began to sing.
The singer was visibly surprised and moved, as was the audience and Jianwei himself. The pianist continued playing, and Oropesa seemed enchanted by the young tenor’s performance. The moment was captured by some attendees and clips were shared on TikTok.
Despite the great performance, Liu took to social media to ask others not to follow his example: “I stood up to sing because Lisette Oropesa is a musician I love very much, and it just so happened that I had learned this opera beforehand,” he said.
“Definitely, this is not something to be proud of, nor something to defend. Please do not interrupt singers when they are performing on stage. It is an impolite behavior. Do not imitate me, and I will never do this again in the future.”
