Starting today (October 24), WhatsApp has announced that it has ceased to function on older Android devices, specifically on version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or earlier of the operating system.

Now, the messaging app from Meta will only be compatible with devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or later. The end of compatibility had already been planned and communicated to users of such devices.
This change is driven by the need for app updates, which may cause these devices, with such an old version of Android, to not meet the security requirements or lack the necessary features to operate WhatsApp.
However, it is expected that few people will be affected by this change, as the Android Jelly Bean version was released 11 years ago, and the operating system itself stopped receiving updates from Google in 2021.
