Windows 11 has introduced a change that is dividing opinions online: the famous blue screen of death is no longer blue.

The screen, which appeared when the computer crashed, was so famous that it became a meme. Internet users began referring to the “blue screen” when their own brains crashed.

But the meme has come to an end, as Microsoft has decided to change the color of the death screen. Now, according to an announcement last Thursday (26), the screen will feature a simplified version with a black background.

The introduction of this update will begin with the final release of Windows 11 24H2, scheduled to happen by the end of September. With this change, Windows aims to optimize the “unexpected restart experience.”

In addition to the blue screen turning black, the messages will also be simplified. The sad face and QR code are removed, leaving only an alert that says: “Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart,” above the completion percentage.

At the bottom of the screen, there will be a message providing more details about the error. According to the company, the changes aim to “improve readability” and “better align” with the overall design of Windows 11.

On social media, users shared their opinions about the change. “It’s to increase the ‘shock’,” argued one user on X (formerly Twitter). “I’ll never in my life switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11,” mocked another. “They even killed the world’s most hated screen,” joked a third.
