A woman lost over $800,000 after believing she was in a romantic relationship with a man who was, in fact, an AI-generated version of Brad Pitt.

Anne, 53, an interior designer, told French channel TF1 that the relationship started in September 2023, when she received a message on Instagram from a “woman” named Jane Etta Pitt, who claimed to be the actor’s mother.

“Someone like you is what my son needs,” read the scammer’s message, before “Brad Pitt” himself continued the conversation, saying: “Hello, Anne. My mother has told me a lot about you. I would like to know more.”

According to Sud Ouest newspaper, the victim was going through a very difficult time in her personal life. Anne was in a troubled relationship with a millionaire businessman 19 years her senior.

The “Brad Pitt impersonator” claimed to be facing health issues, and Anne began making deposits to try and help him. The scammer, in turn, sent her several love letters to manipulate her.

After seeing real photos of Brad Pitt with his current girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, Anne realized what had happened. She went to the police to report the situation, and an investigation into the case was launched in mid-2024.

Anne is reportedly in a clinic, dealing with severe depression symptoms, according to BFMTV. “I wonder why they chose me to do such harm. I never hurt anyone. These people deserve hell,” she told TF1.
