In a statement released last Sunday (23), YouTube revealed that it will no longer show ads during important moments of videos on the platform.

The change aims to modify the default settings of mid-roll ads, which could appear at any moment in the video. Now, ads will only be shown at specific moments to avoid interrupting the content viewing experience.

According to the platform, a test was conducted last year with mid-roll ads that were inserted both manually and automatically by the platform.

It was discovered that, in the case of mixed ads, there was a 5% increase in creators’ revenue compared to manually inserted ads.

YouTubers can use YouTube Studio to place ads manually, but according to the platform, the best approach is to let the system place some automatic ads and have the creator insert the rest.

With this change, which will take effect on May 12, the system will mark a warning for the creator if an ad is inserted at an important moment of the video, which could lead to viewers abandoning the content.

It is important to note that all videos published on YouTube before February 24, 2025, will be updated with the option for both manual and automatic ads.
