Over the course of three months, Helia Abdhollah from Melbourne, Australia, recorded several clips showing her neighbor’s corgi stuck on the apartment balcony.

The footage showed the dog sleeping in a very basic doghouse, with no bedding or any protection from the cold weather.

According to her, he stayed there day and night. “I saw him endlessly spinning on that small balcony floor — a heartbreaking sign of anxiety and emotional distress,” Helia said.

“I’ve seen his tail wag when the owner comes out, desperately trying to connect. But the owner doesn’t even acknowledge him. Doesn’t pet him. Doesn’t let him in.”

“The corgi literally hesitates to cross the threshold, as if he’s been conditioned to know he’s not allowed inside his own home,” she lamented.

“This is emotional abuse and it’s completely avoidable. Melbourne is freezing right now — I can barely deal with the cold inside my apartment. I can’t even imagine how this little dog manages to survive out there night after night.”

The video, posted on her TikTok profile, gathered thousands of views and sparked outrage among Australians. Now, it seems the little corgi has a new chance.

According to news.com.au, the 16-month-old corgi named Trump was surrendered to the council by his owner, after both parties agreed it was the right thing to do.

“Thanks to the kindness of a good Samaritan, a little corgi has a new chance at life — with a future full of love, long walks, and plenty of treats,” said acting mayor Roshena Campbell to the outlet.

“We take responsible pet ownership seriously […]. Every pet deserves a safe and loving environment, and now we’ll work to find a permanent home for this pup,” she added.

Trump is now living at The Lost Dogs’ Home shelter in North Melbourne, where he is receiving medical checkups and much-needed cuddles from the staff. He will be available for adoption soon.

“This little corgi is being very well cared for and will no doubt find a new home soon,” said Mel McCarthy, Manager of Service Delivery and Local Government at The Lost Dogs’ Home, to news.com.au.
